Meet Melanie

The face, hands, heart, and soul behind Flora Cosmica is Melanie Rivas, an independent artist born in Aguascalientes, Mexico and first-generation immigrant based in the outskirts of Atlanta, Georgia. The first-born into a family of artists, consisting of two brave parents and four strong daughters. Melanie and her family arrived to the U.S during the peak of the late 90s to early 00s pop culture scene. Her style and artistic choices are heavily influenced by the fashion, music, TV, and sexual awakening of that time period.

Within her artistic spectrum, Melanie’s work represents the conflicting feelings of simultaneous sadness and joy, alienation and belonging, instability and balance, as well as pop, Latinx, and southern culture.

Melanie is a mother to two fur kids – a pitbull named Pepe and a dachshund named Benito. She is happily married to her best-friend-from-high-school, and co-runs a small Mexican goods store with her parents.
